WHY LAUGHTER REALLY IS GOOD MEDICINE – ESPECIALLY AT WORK By Kathleen Passanisi, PT, CSP, CPAE We’ve all heard the expression, “Laughter is good medicine.” The good news is it’s true. Laughter really is good medicine and taking time to focus on its value can add life to your years and perhaps even years to your life. Countless studies have estimated the negative impact of stress on health, relationships, and the company bottom line. Using your sense of humor and enjoying good old-fashioned belly laughs may be just the remedy. Laughter:
Humor:
No matter the seriousness of the tasks at hand, a light-hearted approach to yourself and your coworkers helps one keep a healthy perspective. Sharing a laugh or a funny story can reduce tension and friction among team members. Self-effacing humor from the boss lets others know she’s approachable and human. Do away with the concept of T.G.I.F. (Thank God It’s Friday). Don’t wait until the week is over to enjoy your work and your coworkers. Promote T.G.I.N. (Thank God It’s Now). Humor and laughter truly are good medicine—and they’re free! These days, the world could use a lift. Make a conscious effort to share your sense of humor. Kathleen Passanisi, PT, CSP, CPAE is an internationally recognized speaker, therapeutic humorist, and author. Author of It's Your Life—Choose Well.
